"For the first year of experimenting, it was really just me in my room playing around with ideas," Josh Glenn tells SFR. "I'd take all these ideas, put my favorites onto one piece of paper, what I call my 'one sheet,' and I would jam out for an hour or two; sometimes one progression, one idea, and gradually I came to realize I needed to consolidate these ideas."
That consolidation is today known as the Josh Glenn Experiment
SANTIKOS RIFFS AND REELS ANNOUNCES ITS FIRST EVER WINNING MUSIC VIDEOS
On Tuesday night, the marriage of the San Antonio film and music communities tightened as the Riffs and Reels Music Video Showcase announced its first winner of a competition that lasted four weeks. Nine pairs of local filmmakers and musicians worked together to create original music videos that showcased both the filmmakers’ and the musicians’ talents. Hosting the event was San Antonio native Sonny Melendrez, a beloved American radio personality and former host of Magic 105.3.
Josh Glenn Experiment Is As Experimental As Music Gets
From a glance, Josh Glenn seems like your average folk musician. He has the requisite handsome beard and flannel shirt. While getting ready to perform in our B40 studio, he takes out his seasoned guitar and pedal assembly, connects them to an audio recorder, and starts playing various chords that are interrupted by a silence or an occasional bang on the body of his guitar. I am left very confused. Do all of his songs sound like this? They do. At the end of the performance, Josh can tell how puzzled I am and laughs. “Wait until you hear the whole thing.” I put on the headphones connected to the audio recorder, and I am immediately blown away.
Back in April of 2017, I won a social media battle while promoting my performance for Fusion Fest 2017 at Burlson Yard Beer Garden. I hustled for weeks, asking my friends’ and fans’ and even strangers to follow a simple link and vote for me. The prize? The coveted musical guest spot for the SA Living morning show! AND MY HUSTLE PAID OFF! I practiced all week ahead of the early morning performance. The song I chose: “This Year”. I wrote this for all the creative minds out there… don’t you ever stop creating beautiful things.
